Red
Each year level is characterized by a colour and participants are challenged to live by a motto and associated values.
Participants in Year 10 are a part of the “Red Crossing”.
The motto for the year is “Sailing away from mediocrity.” Students are encouraged to discover who they are and the type of person they wish to be. This is achieved through:
- the formation of a strong sense of group identity (through camps, fortnightly meetings and group ministry activities)
- the development of individual leadership skills
- involvement in service and ministry to the community
- exploration of the Christian faith and how this might influence our call to be people of justice.
The values for the year are “dedication” and “sacrifice”, in an acknowledgement that the journey will at times be difficult. Students are challenged to develop:
- a genuine commitment to personal development
- a deep understanding of the other members of the group
- a deep understanding of the needs of their community through active involvement and service,
- an openness to exploring “who God is in their own lives” and how they may begin to live as a disciple of Christ.
To support their development, students participate in:
- one school based camp at the beginning of the year (focusing on personal development and community formation). This is called the Red Embarkation Camp.
- one regional camp during the year (focusing on leadership and social justice issues). This is called the Red Caravel Days.
- one National camp during the year (focusing on faith, leadership and social justice issues). This is called the Red Leadership Camp.
- programmed, fortnightly meetings
- regular ministry and service to the community
Each group is led by a teacher who walks with them throughout the three year journey.
