Blue

Blue CrossingEach year level is characterized by a colour and participants are challenged to live by a motto and associated values.

Participants in Year 11 are a part of the “Blue Crossing”.

The motto for the year is “Living as Christ’s disciples.”  Students are encouraged to discover who God is in their own lives, and how we may follow the example of Jesus.  The importance of prayer, both on a communal and personal level, are highlighted as the foundation for our acts of justice and peace.

The values for the year are “humility”, “loyalty” and “solidarity”.  Students are challenged to develop:

  • a genuine commitment to the group and overcoming issues as they arise in order to work together effectively
  • a deep understanding of their personal strengths and weaknesses
  • a deep understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each member of the group
  • a desire to respond to the needs of the poor and marginalised through active involvement and service,
  • a personal knowledge of “who God  is in their own lives” and a strong motivation to work towards living as a disciple of Christ.

To support their development, students participate in:

  • one school based camp at the beginning of the year (focusing on personal development, community formation and faith development).  This is called the Blue Embarkation Camp.
  • one regional camp during the year (focusing on prayer, faith development and social justice issues).  This is called the Blue Retreat.
  • one “Solidarity Camp” during the year (groups are linked to a marginalized community where they live and work for one week in response to the needs of the particular community)
  • programmed, fortnightly meetings
  • regular ministry and service to the community
  • the provision of leadership and support to students involved in the Red Crossing.

Each group is led by a teacher who walks with them throughout the three year journey.
